Chasing The Sky

Have you tried chasing the sky?

The sky has fascinated me since I was a kid. What variety! Grey, black, silver, gold, pink, fuchsia, purple, green, orange… and the occasional treat of a rainbow. The bright blue sky turning into a quiet blue and then inky black, the stars and the moon.

No one influenced my liking for the sky. There was no one to point out constellations when I grew up or give scientific explanations as to why it was the way it was. A natural fascination for the sky was born with me. I spent hours lying down on the terrace at night, staring at the sky. I watched the progress of the sun during the day. I looked at birds flirting with clouds.

In my early teens, I coined a term for this fascination: Chasing The Sky. It soothed me to ‘chase the sky’ when I felt low or tired. Gazing a the sky was cathartic. It touched something deep inside me and made me feel good. The longer I looked, the lighter I felt. Almost as if I was reaching out and flying too. The sky inspired me. I felt expansive.

As an adult, I continue to be fascinated by the nature of the sky: ever-changing but always beautiful. It seemed to me that the sky was always communicating an important message: never be afraid of change because it makes your life more beautiful.

I’ve taken message that to heart and while I am sometimes apprehensive of change (who isn’t?), I have developed enough self-awareness to not resist it because change makes life dynamic and interesting. Besides, life without change is stagnant. Other times, I welcome change and simply jump off the cliff, enjoying the high that the anticipation of change brings. And you know what? Embracing change has always made my life more beautiful. I learn so much and am enriched by change. Why don’t you try chasing the sky too?
