Handling life’s crossroads.
When someone asks me if I have been at a crossroads in my life, I respond that my life does not have a single one but many. Still, many seem to believe that there is a single, major crossroads that will completely change one’s life. As we grow and evolve, we keep coming to more and more crossroads. Moreover, what might have seemed like a crossroads to our past selves is just another experience in the present. And there will be many more ahead as we continue to define who we are.
The more curious and adventurous you are about life, the further you journey. More and more crossroads reveal themselves to you the further you walk. And every time, you choose where you are headed next. It is important that the choice is fully yours. Otherwise, you will be unhappy. Once you make a decision, walk in the direction you choose with conviction.
You will, of course, make mistakes. Accept them as part of the journey because you will learn more from them than you will if you never explore life outside your comfort zone. Stagnating in a single zone means you never get to sample new experiences. It also means that you pigeonhole yourself and never learn more about yourself or what you are truly capable of.
When you come to the next crossroads of your life, decide for yourself where you want to go. Remember that no one can force you to do anything. Once you make your decision, commit to it and live your choice. Throw yourself into the experience—not just the great moments but the not-so-great ones too. Experience it all fully.
Life always helps those who live their choices without regrets, often in unexpected ways. When you reach the next crossroads, it will help you recognize the path you most need to take rather than taking the road expected of you. And that makes all the difference between a mundane existence and a life well-lived, on your terms.
